JOB DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Medical Practitioners for Psychiatry Registrar positions at Austin Health from February 2021. 


We have one full time position (1.0eft) and one part time(0.5eft) position available.


 Austin Health Mental Health Division provides care and services through a comprehensive range of teams to meet the needs of mental health consumers and carers throughout Victoria including:



  • Parent-Infant Psychiatry (inpatient services at Austin Hospital and Northpark Private, outpatient services at Mercy Hospital).

  • Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (Liver Transplant Unit, National Epilepsy Service, Spinal Unit, Respiratory Unit, Drug Dependency Clinic).

  • Statewide Child and Adolescent Inpatient Units and outpatient services.

  • Eating Disorders Service (outpatient, day hospital and inpatient programs).

  • Statewide Centre for Trauma Related Mental Health (inpatient and outpatient services providing trauma related individual and group therapy for veterans, emergency services personnel and civilian groups, and veterans > 65yrs).

  • Statewide Brain Disorders Program in Neuropsychiatry (inpatient and outpatient work and neuroscience consultation liaison).

  • Psychiatry of Old Age through Bundoora Extended Care, Northpark Private Hospital and The Melbourne Clinic.

  • Forensic psychiatry through Forensicare at Thomas Embling Hospital.

  • Private Sector rotations are also offered to Epworth Camberwell, The Melbourne Clinic, Northpark Private Hospital.

The Professor of Psychiatry leads the stimulating and wide reaching research programs across all parts of the Mental Health Division and the Austin has a reputation for encouraging those interested in an academic psychiatry career to being investigating this as early in their careers as they wish.


Details of any pre-requisites/preferences for applicants:



  • Registered Medical Practitioner with Australian Registration.

  • Have appropriate training and experience to the field of Psychiatry.

  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care.

  • Demonstrated capability and interest in research.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration.
