About the role

Reporting to the Team Lead Structures Capability Design, this role is responsible for working within an engineering team to develop and deliver design solutions following company procedures, in accordance with a level and scope of Engineering Authority delegated to you.

You can anticipate some of your day-to-day activities to include:

  • Developing, reviewing and approving technical reports and substantiating data for modifications
  • Carrying out detailed structural analysis using both hand calculations and finite element analysis on both composite and metallic structures
  • Familiarising yourself with and supporting other areas of the Structures team including, In-service support and aircraft structural integrity programs
  • Developing and approving advice and instructions for Continued airworthiness
  • Maintenance of data files, engineering records and appropriate electronic databases in order to accurately report and record engineering decisions
  • Participation in the improvement of the Design Assurance System
  • Mentor less experienced engineers 

About you

To be successful in this role, it is a requirement to be able to work in a team environment, have well developed relationship skills as well as good verbal and written skills. You will need to be someone who is able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines and work comfortably in a continuous improvement work environment. The skills and experience best suited to this role:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or compatible discipline from nationally accredited program or equivalen
  • Previous experience working on aerospace metallic and/or composite structures as a practicing design engineer with solid knowledge of stress analysis methods and techniques
  • Status as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of DASR standards and practices
  • Understanding of maintenance and engineering cost drivers to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and review of technical documentation
