JOB DESCRIPTION

Maddocks is committed to making a difference for our clients, our people and the communities in which we operate.

About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join Maddocks’ construction litigation team, working with Paul Woods and Anna Scannell. The Construction team has five Partners and works across both front and back-end matters. The team has a strong pipeline of varied and interesting work, across a range of clients, including large construction companies and developers as well as government departments and entities.

This role will see you working across a range of matters for both our public and private clients, including:

  • Disputes relating to time (extension of time and delay costs), variations and defects (including latent defects) arising on construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Litigated construction disputes in Victorian Courts
  • Arbitrations under domestic commercial arbitration legislation in Australia
  • Expert determination and mediation
  • Experience advising on construction insurance policies (experience in this area would be a bonus but is not essential).

Industries include commercial, energy, gas, electricity, road, rail, mining and residential projects.

Working as a Senior Associate in the team, you will have the opportunity to work both autonomously and collaboratively with Partners and other members of the team on both mid and larger scale matters. You will have significant client contact and supervise and mentor more junior lawyers as required.

About you

This role would suit someone who has approximately 5+ years’ experience working on Construction Litigation. You will most likely have worked in a mid or top tier firm across a range of construction disputes. You will also have the following skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach
  • Strong academic results
  • Ability to work both autonomously and within larger teams
  • A commitment to technical excellence and to continuing learning and development

By joining this team, you will be offered strong mentoring and support and the ability to progress your career in a collegiate environment.
