The Opportunity

The school of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking to appoint a Research Associate who will be responsible for developing and optimising novel construction material mix designs and testing their performance and durability in comparison with traditional concretes made from Portland cement. The Research Associate will be working closely with the project leader and the team for transferring the knowledge to the industry partners of the project and will work proactively in seeking their feedback for continuous improvement of the products.

The role of Research Associate in Sustainable Construction Materials reports to Dr Hajimohammadi and has no direct reports.

  • Level A Salary, $97,368 to $104,143 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time or Part Time
  • Fixed-term contract – Initial 12 months with possible extension of additional 24 months
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Selection Criteria

  • A PhD (or soon to be awarded) in construction materials, alkali-activated materials or related area.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications relevant to the opportunity in the following areas is desirable:
    • making successful mix designs for innovative construction materials
    • research on durability of construction materials
    • successful experimental research on construction materials
  • Experience with collaborating with industry and meeting project milestones is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with other staff and
  • external providers
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
