Goodstart is looking for a National Design and Construction Manager to lead the work in Victoria, on behalf of the Property Projects team. Together with the National Design and Construction Manager and the National Upgrades Manager, this role will provide on the ground support of the program being delivered in Victoria, supporting key aspects of the design and construction process, from due diligence, concept & detailed design through to construction completion, defects remediation and post implementation review.

This role is a full time, 12-month contract position working out of our Melbourne Head Office in Port Melbourne, with most time spent at centres and sites.

About the role –

  • Work collaboratively alongside our senior project team members and with external service providers to ensure Goodstart’s Design Guidelines are adhered to
  • Understand and apply Goodstart Centre Design guidelines to upgrade and new centre projects
  • Conduct site inspections on behalf of the National Upgrades Manager and National Design and Construction Manager
  • Meet with Project Managers and/or Site Supervisors (as well as relevant consultants and authorities if required) to discuss project risks and issues and inspect items as required and as directed by the National Upgrades Manager and National Design and Construction Manager
  • Check contractors are delivering works in general accordance with their approved Construction Management Plan (including Quality and Workplace Health and Safety requirements)
  • Complete Health and Safety audit checks as required
  • Provide assistance in the submission of Victorian funding related applications
  • Support the Funding team in the reporting requirements of approved funding projects
  • In conjunction with project consultants, check that construction is proceeding in general accordance with the project brief, Goodstart standards and approved construction documentation
  • Check progress against the approved program and approximately assess construction percent complete
  • Provide reports summarising the above including photos.
  • Leverage expertise to add value to design and construct solutions

About you –

  • Minimum of 5 years in construction/ project management (client-side experience strongly desirable)
  • Experience in leading the delivery of projects on a regional scale
  • Experience in building strong internal working relationships with a view to becoming a valued and trusted business partner
  • Experience in critical path project management and associated software skillset
  • Project management experience in the delivery of projects ($25K-$ 4 million)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of both Project and Construction management models and associated building construction contracts, service contracts
  • Experience in leading financial management/contract administration of large national multisite projects
  • Strong knowledge and experience with WH&S plans, systems and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative teamwork approach
  • An uncompromising approach to delivering high quality to agreed deadlines
  • Experience in the childcare sector (Desired)
  • Flexibility to undertake domestic travel is essential.
