Job summary

Desert Distributors is looking to fill a full-time permanent Storeperson and Forklift Operator position with an experienced individual.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Safely and competently unload incoming stock from trucks and road trains using forklifts;
• Accurately count/match incoming stock against incoming paperwork (purchase order or purchase order invoice) for the purpose of ensuring specifications, quantity and quality of incoming stock is correct;
• Ensure incoming counted stock is rotated following FIFO procedures, then sorted and placed at BIN locations;
• Operate specialised materials handling equipment, such as hydraulic pallet lifters and hand trucks (to move goods), manually and electronically guided order pickers (to pick, pack and assemble orders from picking slips on pallets), and forklifts (to load the completed orders onto transport);
• Operate computers to obtain and update details of location and quantity of items in stock;
• Evaluate individual circumstances and situations (e.g. rush orders, special delivery etc.); and respond to a variety of calls, concerns and/or complaints;
• Maintain inventory controls by conducting regular stocktakes and re-order reports; as well as maintaining adequate levels of warehouse materials, e.g. packing tape, box cutters, mixed pallet stickers, customer labels;
• Inspect and maintain warehouse equipment by completing preventive maintenance; Inspect and maintain company vehicles by completing preventive maintenance;
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping warehouse/office, shelves, pallet area, and workstations clean; complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; ensuring the warehouse is accessible and safe for salespeople and customer traffic; and always wearing the proper safety equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move heavy objects. Storepersons must follow occupational health and safety guidelines in order to minimise the risk of causing themselves serious injuries

Qualifications & experience

· At least 5 years' experience in a similar role required

· At least 2 years’ experience driving a forklift required

· Forklift licence required

· Current driver's licence required

· A relevant qualification preferred

Salary: $45,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
