About the job

We are looking for a Structural Geologist to join our Resource Development Team to engage with multiple Copper business units and projects, providing support, guidance and mentoring to site teams with structural data, interpretations, modelling, risk analysis and governance whilst communicating key structural and geotechnical aspects, risks and opportunities to a broad range of stakeholders.

The successful applicant will be part of a critical skills technical group tasked with providing expert technical and operational advice and recommendations for the development, maintenance and management of 3D structural models. Your time will be focused on improving and refining stratigraphic and structural knowledge for resource estimation, geotechnical design and mine planning across studies and operations and aligned to the long term business strategy.

Reporting to the Principal Resource Geologist and working in a challenging and exciting environment, your primary tasks will include… 

  • Ensure the work of on-site & project teams is supported and being completed to the appropriate standards whilst identifying opportunities of improvement including risk management, efficiencies and productivity improvements
  • Developing standard systems of work and championing continuous improvement projects from data collection and analysis to modelling processes
  • Training, supporting and mentoring of geologists and geotechnical engineers in structural geology data collection, analysis, validation and storage
  • Timely review and validation of structural models in 3D utilising all available structural/geological datasets for resource estimation and geotechnical analysis
  • The role is critical to the acquisition, interpretation, documentation and delivery of structural models to the Estimation, Engineering, Hydrogeology and other technical teams through the various study stages and into operations

What You’ll Bring 

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Essential – Bachelor level Geology or Structural Geology
  • A strong technical background with prior experience in structural/geological mapping in surface exposures, open pits and/or underground locations
  • Expertise in construction of computerised 3D geological/stratigraphic/structural models
  • Experience in geological/geotechnical drill program planning and implementation
  • Experience in geological data gathering and validation
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including an ability to build relationships
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail and an ability to problem solve
  • Strong focus on Safety 

It will also be beneficial if you have: 

  • An MSc or equivalent in Structural Geology
  • Readiness for learning and constant development in structural geology and related disciplines
