About the Position

Reporting to the Category Manager – Construction and Operations, the Principal Category Lead, CAPEX and Major Construction is primarily responsible for leadership and expertise in best practice spend management, procurement and contract management for capital works construction projects. This will also include development and implementation of CAPEX savings/benefits initiatives and commercial advice to superintendents for high-risk construction contracts. This role is the trusted advisor to the City Projects Office as a Procurement Partner.

About the Person

We are seeking a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the field of civil and civil infrastructure construction contracting. Coupled with extensive experience in partnering to provide strategic advice and procurement strategies for the delivery of such CAPEX construction projects. The person will also lead a team to establish and manage ongoing corporate procurement arrangements.

Strong construction strategy, sourcing and procurement delivery is highly desirable as are well developed influencing and stakeholder management skills. A leadership style which embodies Council’s “Leadership Blueprint” is also critical in this role.

To be successful you will have: 

  • experience in the development and successful implementation of construction procurement strategies and supporting implementation plans in large organisations
  • proven capability in working and communicating with a broad and diverse range of stakeholder groups which include all levels of management and operational teams in order to deliver cost benefit fit for purpose procurement 
  • highly developed analytical, problem-solving strategies to meet business requirements
  • high level negotiation, consultation and relationship management skills together with written and oral communication skills and the demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • strong leadership capability to lead a team of professional procurement specialists.
