As a world leader in its field, Arup offers the full spectrum of structural engineering consulting services. We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our local Adelaide office working in our Buildings team. 

About you

Our ideal candidate will have worked in previous buildings consultancy role working on impactful mid-large sized projects. You’ll be intuitive to client needs as well as the project context, and creative in developing win-win solutions. Supported by an established skill base, you may be looking for your next solid career move and a chance to further grow and show your leadership skills, while working on challenging, exciting projects.

You will bring existing knowledge and experience in building structures engineering consultancy and design, including the ability to advise clients on cost-effective, sustainable solutions. In addition, our ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience in managing key projects in a consulting environment, including the management of multi-disciplinary project teams;

• Established knowledge of the local marketplace and client networks;

• Ability to undertake high-level analysis;

• Experience in guiding and nurturing the professional and skill development of less experienced engineers;

• Minimum of tertiary qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering;

• Eligibility for Chartership with the Institute of Engineers (Australia) – IE Aust, or chartership with equivalent associations in other countries.


About the role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you’ll undertake design and enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise. As part of the Building Structures team, this role covers a broad range of skills relating to structural engineering, and you may contribute to both buildings and infrastructure projects. You’ll primarily lead Building Structures design input on a broad range of projects, across a range of markets including government, commercial, education and transport. 

Specifically, you will:

• Review and supervise structural engineering design work, and liaise with other engineering-discipline groups on design issues;

• Provide Building Structures input on total project delivery for a broad range of projects within the general structural engineering area;

• Prepare detailed tender submissions to clients outlining Arup’s structural engineering capability, and negotiating fees;

• Prepare project reports for clients summarising structural engineering issues and strategically advising on best outcomes taking into account the total context in which the client operates;

• Develop systems and concepts for a sustainable approach to Building Structures engineering design.

• Provide assistance and support to other Building Structures teams within the Australasia Division, along with input into Arup global skills networks.


You may be responsible for the performance and development of other more junior staff. This would require providing guidance, training, motivation and direction – creating a supportive, inclusive environment.
