The Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Process Ops & Asset Management, this role is responsible for the Process Dry Plant Mechanical Maintenance Team, delivering maintenance and operational performance of the processing comminution circuit (including 60” Fuller gyratory primary crushers, apron feeders, MP1000 cone secondary crushers, high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR)) and a complex system of conveyors, shuttles and feed bins). This role is also responsible for the management of the mobile crane and scaffold activities across site. The incumbent will ensure compliance with maintenance systems and processes, efficient deployment of resources focusing on work methodology, job quality, schedule compliance, reliability strategy and performance of equipment and processes.

In This Role You Will

  • Ensure Dry Plant equipment maintenance activities support the operation of processing facilities (including the primary crushing plant, overland conveyor and comminution circuit consisting of MP1000 cone crushers and high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR)) to achieve NBG production targets’
  • Manage the mobile crane and scaffold activities across site.
  • Support, manage and implement the Newmont work management program
  • Provide leadership and direction to all direct and indirect reports to ensure the safest and most efficient mining operations to achieve production targets
  • Be accountable for the quality of work output from the unit/department through an ongoing monitoring and audit process
  • Support maintenance strategies to ensure optimum equipment performance and cost
  • Support Planning and Engineering in the delivery of detailed maintenance schedules and allocation of resources to ensure all work is completed in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner
  • Provide input into the strategic planning process for all dry plant assets including capital projects within area of responsibility
  • Support long term planning and scheduling strategies to minimise backlog, utilising effective component condition monitoring techniques
  • Maintain and utilise planning attainment KPI’s to continuously improve maintenance and planning practices
  • Management of key onsite contractors to support the delivery of processing requirements
  • Develop maintenance site standards where Global Standards are not available or practical
  • Complete and review incident investigations to ensure all causes have been identified to ensure controls can be implemented to reduce the level of risk
  • Development of operational budget and ensure compliance to the budget
  • Coordinate inputs from other departments
  • Manage the development of team members
  • Engage and manage contractors within the team to meet specific technical or ad-hoc labour needs
  • Maintain documents associated with the team
  • Maintain mandatory training compliance within the team
  • Act as the delegate for the relevant Manager as required
The Person
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of trade training and experience is desirable.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Maintenance Superintendent in a milling/processing environment, preferably in large mining operations.
  • Strong project management and planning skills in a mining environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of budget and cost control in a process environment.
  • Significant experience in managing contract maintenance work teams and specialist maintenance service providers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and standards.
  • Capable of managing a skilled trade team within a very large and complex processing plant (40Mtpa).
  • The ability to multitask and operate in a disciplined and effective manner within a high intensity environment for extended time frames.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills with a proven ability to influence, involve and gain the cooperation and consensus of a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure short term operational objectives are achieved in an efficient manner for an optimal solution
  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy including experience with the Microsoft suite and SAP.
  • A strong desire to expand and apply technical and operational knowledge in the continuous improvement of the operation.
