Title: Technical Construction Manager
Level: Executive level 1
Salary Range: $106,293 - $129,722 per annum, plus superannuation
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) provides housing services to Defence members and their families. In doing this, we support Defence capability and the operational, recruitment and retention goals of the Department of Defence.
The Service Delivery Group is responsible for meeting DHA’s objectives relating to the delivery of high quality housing services, including provisioning, maintenance services, stock management, housing allocation and living-in accommodation booking services.
The Property function is responsible for the delivery of Developments, Constructions, Acquisitions, Sales, Upgrades and Heritage programs. The Technical Construction Manager supports the Technical, Heritage, Upgrades and Defects function within the Property Function.
In this role, you will manage the shared resources of a team of Assistant Project Managers across multiple business groups and lead the team in managing property technical/quality issues and all builders defect liability periods (DLP) for DHA’s property portfolio. This includes but not limited to:
- Providing arbitration, policy guidance and advice to the organisation in its approach to quality and defect management, including resolving escalated cases.
- Providing sound advice, recommendations and training utilising your expertise in the building industry and builder’s defects.
- Coordinating defect rectification activities and apply lessons learnt for future constructions to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Providing detailed analysis of contracted builder’s performance, conduct performance discussions with contractors in defect management for future procurement and tender activities.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- An extensive background in the building and property management industry, with experience in defect management.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a residential construction environment with a carpentry and/or building background as well as trade or tertiary qualifications in the construction industry.
- A strong decision making ability based on sound judgement, expertise and knowledge.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders both verbally and written to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Including resolving complex technical defect issues with stakeholders
- A strong ability to manage priorities, organise workloads and meet challenging deadlines under limited direction.
- Demonstrated expertise in undertaking complex research work and analysis including the preparation of reports to communicate outcomes.
- Proven experience using a range of database and workflow management systems and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, preferably including the use of Microsoft Project.
