JOB DESCRIPTION

Salary: $60,001 - $80,000

Position objectives

This position is responsible for providing effective and efficient mechanical service involving the repair, servicing and maintenance of plant, equipment and vehicle fleet. Plant includes heavy commercials, earth-moving equipment, light fleet and ancillary items.

Key responsibility areas

  • Diagnose problems from mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Undertake routine servicing maintenance and repairs to all plant equipment as reported on the plant daily inspection checklist/fault report after consultation with site managers, operators and truck drivers.
  • Ensure collection and collation of all daily plant checklists and schedule maintenance in accordance to the checklists and Workshop Program to ensure all plant is safe and operational.
  • Manage and maintain service records for all plant and equipment
  • Prepare and schedule preventative maintenance for all Kelbon owned plant and instruct drivers, plant operators and other employees on routine inspection and servicing of vehicles, plant and equipment entrusted to their care, reporting problems to the General/Operations Manager.
  • Recommend jobs to be undertaken by outside contractors if unable to complete job in-house to

General/Operations Manager..

  • Provide technical advice regarding specifications and assessments for plant purchases as required.
  • Perform risk assessments on new and existing plant and equipment
  • Ensure work performed complies with Kelbon standards and RMS regulation.
  • Interpret manuals and software to identify spare parts and liaise with the General/Operations Manager in regard to parts ordering.
  • Correctly use and maintain all personal protective clothing and equipment supplied by Kelbon
  • Plan work so that it is done efficiently and in accordance with industry standards.
  • Be willing to be available to attend out of hour’s breakdowns and vehicle retrievals, if required.
  • Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents’ skill, competence and training.

Specialist skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of components and operation of individual items including, a range of engines, transmissions, differential and electrical systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the technology in maintaining plant and equipment procedures and processes.
  • Safe and competentoperation of very heavy mechanical plant.
  • Ability and skills to provide training to apprentices either through their formal training programme or on-the-job training.
  • Ability to operate computerised inventory systems.
  • Problem solving ability

Management skills

  • Developed skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning and 
  • organising work at least a weekly in advance.
  • Basic knowledge of personnel practices and be able to provide employees under their supervision with on-the-job training and guidance

Interpersonal skills

  • Ability to communicate and gain cooperation from other staff,contractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to complete a daily timesheet and associated plant/equipment returns detailing activities for the day.

Qualifications and experience

  • Trade qualification of Diesel Mechanic and 3 years minimum trade experience such as Diesel Mechanic, fitter and turner.
  • Knowledge of mechanical workshop operations and associated equipment.
  • Knowledgeof standards and regulations associated with the mechanical workshop plant and fleet
  • Knowledge of the latest technology relating to a mechanical workshop,plant and fleet.
  • Safety in the workplace.
  • Safe use and handling of capital and minor plant and equipment.

Selection criteria

  • Trade qualified Diesel Mechanic with 3 years minimum trade experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the service and repair of heavy earth moving plant and machinery
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationship in a friendly and flexible manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to WHS
  • Certificate of competency in heavy plant operation relevant to maintenance activities.
