SmartestEnergy Australia is a start-up energy business in the NEM region.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Vice President Trading, the Renewables Structured Products Manager (‘RSPM’) is responsible for the structuring.

Origination and execution of non-standard energy-related energy transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structuring - Manage the structuring of complex customer transactions, new wholesale market access, and bespoke green portfolio construction with Australian C&I retail consumers, generators, retailers, and other third-party energy market participants.
  • Deal Delivery - Support non-standard deal delivery, including ownership of associated documentation and approvals, in line with internal policies and mandates.
  • Portfolio Management – Take responsibility for the portfolio of PPA contracts, managing the ongoing relationship with developers, and enabling the execution of renewable energy hedging strategy for SmartestEnergy and/or its customers.
  • Renewable Developer – Develop and maintain relationships with all renewable energy market stakeholders, in particular independent renewable developers.
  • Stakeholder Management - Lead the appropriate internal risk approvals, ensuring commercial and operational alignment across departments and groups, attending and presenting to Risk Management Committee as required. Report to senior management meetings as required on commercial performance and portfolio risks.
  • Strategy - Continuously seek and propose new and innovative opportunities identified in or related to the structured energy space that will support the growth or expansion of SmartestEnergy Australia.
  • Supporting the Group – Provide support to the company with expertise, knowledge, and skills to ensure group and company objectives are met.


Performance Indicators
  • Contract Performance – The profitable performance of each structured and managed contract, through external delivery and efficiency and effective internal approvals and management.
  • Gross Margin – Performance of gross margin delivery related to structured contracts and portfolio of PPAs
  • NPS – Customer satisfaction, including independent generation counterparties.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Compliance with all relevant legislation related to managed and structured contracts


Experience
  • Extensive experience of wholesale energy markets and trading gained through a front-office position at a utility, energy trading house, bank, or similar institution.
  • Extensive experience in analysing market data and trends to develop new commercial strategies.
  • Track record of successfully structuring and executing structured energy trading transactions.


Knowledge
  • Extensive understanding of the participants and commercial arrangements in the Australian NEM energy market, covering generation, wholesale trading, retail.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard trading arrangements (e.g. ISDA).
  • Extensive knowledge of structured energy trading instruments (e.g. structured trading, options, swaps).
  • Extensive knowledge of the economics of the energy retail business model and key risks.
