The Onshore Energy Systems Directorate is a multi-disciplinary team that undertakes onshore basin energy research. You will work within a team of geoscientists and contribute to building an improved understanding of the geological evolution and petroleum prospectivity of Australia’s onshore basins. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills in basin analysis and work with wide-ranging geological and geophysical datasets including seismic data, geological and geophysical well data, core samples, biostratigraphic and geochemical information, potential field data, regional tectonic and geodynamic data.

The successful candidate will also have advanced skills in seismic interpretation, structural geology, sequence stratigraphy, well log analysis, petroleum geology and mapping. A willingness to learn and integrate new skills with existing knowledge and experience is essential. The position will involve extensive use of software including Geoframe, Petrel, ArcGIS, and 3D modelling and visualisation software (e.g. Petrel). Training opportunities in applications, including well-log interpretation and basin analysis techniques will be available.

Working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will apply expert geological knowledge to enhance understanding of Australia’s onshore basins, across a range of specific research projects, mentor team members and represent Geoscience Australia in a range of forums.
