The Role
Discipline Leader Aerospace Platform Structural Modelling & Analysis’s primary role is to act as the subject matter expert in a specific science and technology field, advising and leading projects within the Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) involving highly complex aerospace scientific and engineering work with a focus on achieving Defence outcomes.

You will be responsible to build and lead multi-disciplinary teams of scientists, engineers and technical staff. Based on your extensive experience and training you will be able to advise on the best scientific, test, analysis or evaluation methods to achieve the Defence outcomes and report those outcomes to client representatives, Group and Senior DST personnel.

About our Team
The Aerospace Platform Systems (APS) Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) is concerned with optimising the structural and propulsion system performance of ADF platforms in the Aerospace Domain. The role of the MSTC is to deliver innovative science and technology solutions for current and future Aerospace platforms to ensure safety, maximize operational capability and availability whilst minimising sustainment costs.

The platforms include fixed and rotary-wing aircraft operating in the challenging conditions offered by the Australian environment, unmanned aerial vehicles constructed of materials with poorly understood fatigue properties, as well as space and hypersonic vehicles operating in conditions of extreme thermal and physical stress. The unique challenges faced by the ADF in sustaining Aerospace Platforms include assuring sovereign capability and flexibility under demanding operational and physical environments with small fleets, limited industry support and constrained budgets.

We are looking for an accomplished leader with specialised knowledge and considerable experience in aerospace structural Integrity. Your client focus will enable you to understand their priorities and balance the client delivery program with long term research.

You shall possess experience and demonstrated skills in one or more of the following:

Aircraft Structural Integrity;
Structural Certification and Life Evaluation;
Fatigue and Durability and
Individual Aircraft Tracking.
As a capable collaborator, you will develop and sustain external linkages and collaborative arrangements with industry, universities and international organisations and create opportunities for your team to work cooperatively with other teams on intersecting projects. You will display the agility to manage shifting demands which may require you to shift your focus and priorities.
