JOB DESCRIPTION

I am partnering with an Engineering firm that specialises in Heavy Steel fabrication projects for a variety of commercial industry sectors. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee the fabrication production.

As the Workshop Manager you will report directly to the Managing Director and be the last point of call, from a quality and operational perspective. Your team will be made up of 10-12 fabrication professionals. As the workshop Manager you will not be expected to be on the tools, your main objective is to deliver a suite of projects ahead of time and to a quality standard - by managing your team effectively.

The key duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop – including toolbox meetings and close of shop.
  • Managing job packs from creation through to dispatch.
  • Report the status of fabrication processes to the Managing Director as well as clients.
  • Work closely with the packaging and logistics team getting projects ready to deliver to site.
  • Manage welding inspections, NDT’s, welding maps, and other quality assurance of finished products.
  • Ordering parts proactively and reactively to limit downtime across production.
  • Delegate tasks effectively between the team to maximise production and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Communicate, implement and practice OHS standards across the workshop to promote safe quality working standards.
  • Set the example from the jump, rather than trying to rule with an iron fist. Your team needs to look up to you as a genuine leader, not a dictator.
A Little Bit About You
  • 5+ years managing/supervising in a workshop - ideally steel fabrication.
  • Qualified boiler maker, welder, or pipefitter.
